CoE published monitoring results for lost people

Council of Europe published the results of pending investigation monitoring of lost people as a result of 2008 August armed conflict. The document contains a report of Thomas Hammerberg, CoE Commissioner for Human Rights.
"Many people fail victims in 2008 August armed conflict. After the conflict many times I had visited Georgia for study of the situation in view of human rights and to decide what type of aid was necessary from international community. The aim of my visit was as well to assist families to return to its homes. Moreover I had tried to speed up cases in the Human Rights Court of those people, who were assumed dead or lost. I help conduction of negotiations between parties, as far I could. As a result of this effort, more then hundred people among them underage were freed, and several dead passed to relatives, "- Hammerberg said in his report. He noted there still are people who were lost during the conflict and its whereabouts is unknown.

The investigation was conducted by two international experts - Brus Peg and Nikolas Sebir. The above mentioned report is based on the results obtained by these experts.
