Georgia's Reforms Associates (GRASS) will hold a Press Conference on 5 August 2013 at Prime-Time press club as a part of the official presentation of its new project, FactCheck.ge. Sergi Kapanadze, GRASS Founder and Director, and Paata Gaprindashvili, GRASS Vice-Director, will speak on behalf of the organisation and the project.
FactCheck is the latest innovation within the activities and engagement of public education and public outreach organised and implemented by the GRASS team. Modelled on established successful international political news-and-information watchdog services such as PolitiFact.Com and FactCheck.Org, GRASS's FactCheck aims to provide a similar service by rating the factual accuracy of statements made by Georgian Members of Parliament and other politicians on issues of timely and topical interest and relevance for the Georgian public nation-wide.
FactCheck's team of young educated sector-relevant professionals monitors parliamentary sessions and reports upon the factual accuracies or inaccuracies found in official statements following in-depth research, fact checking, analysis and reporting in the form of short articles published on the website (www.factcheck.ge). Each article rates the statement according to the Fact-Meter as follows: True, Mostly True, Half True, Mostly False, Half False, False and Lie. FactCheck provides the news-and-information service in a fully bilingual Georgian-English format.
Georgia's Reforms Associates (GRASS) underlines the need for increased monitoring of the Georgian political environment by civil society. FactCheck can make a solid contribution to Georgia's continuing democratic development by enabling discussions and debates based on and backed up by factual information alongside promoting increased accountability of politicians to the public.
The Press Conference will take place at 15:00 on 5 August at the Prime-Time press club. A presentation of the project will also take place at the Parliament of Georgia in Kutaisi on 7 August, 2013.
