From today the Georgian law on amnesty is in force. The law touches more than 600 prisoners, and all those who buy/transported the narcotics or like substances before October 15 of 2009 (e.g. the crime which is punished under the article 260, part I of the Criminal Code). The amnesty touches as well those who buy the narcotics for the own usage but not for the medical purposes and doing this committed the crime stipulated by the Article 273 of the Georgian Criminal Code. For such personslthe sentence will be reduced in half. The law does not touch the persons who are sentenced for the sell of narcotics.
