At the International Festival of Chamber and Solo Performances organized by the Sandro Akhmeteli State Drama Theatre in Tbilisi, representatives of Israel presented a show titled “Diasporas Towards Jerusalem”.
The show featured pianist Gideon Meir, grandson of former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, who decorated the show with his piano performance, remembering his grandmother and the years spent with her.
The show also highlighted musician, artist and actress Megi Rome in a solo performance -psychological drama about the tragic fate of a young woman in a society that lives by the traditions of the past and does not recognize the rights of women. Along with the monologue, the actress effectively conveyed her emotions by playing several excerpts from famous works, including “Tbiliso” on the piano. Her special ability to transform and playing technique won great approval from the audience.
Gidi Meir and Megi Rome performed a four-hand composition by Brahms.
The young singer Kristi Japaridze performed several Jewish songs accompanied by Gidi Meir.
At the end of the performance, Golda Meir's grandson treated the participants with the Georgian wine. This gesture was not just a part of the performance, but personified culture as one of the main bridges of state relations between the two peoples and the two countries.
The event was hosted by actors Ninutsa Nachkhatashvili and Giorgi Gasviani. Ninutsa Nachkhatashvili performed the Jewish song “Numi Numi” accompanied by Gidi Meir.
One of the organizers of this cultural event was the “Israeli House”(chairman - Itsik Moshe), that ensured the arrival of Israeli representatives and their participation in the festival. The festival was held under the guidance of Irakli Gogia, the Artistic Director at Akhmeteli Theatre.
The show was attended by Chaim Chesler, Israeli public figure, expert on national and diaspora issues, as well as a high-ranking Israeli representative for cultural affairs.
As one of the hosts, Giorgi Gasviani, noted at the end of the event, the return of Jews from Galut (Diaspora) to their homeland, the restoration of the state of Israel has created new ties. Culture is one of the ways Georgia and Israel communicate with each other. We probably understand each other better than anyone else, both in good and bad times. Israel, the Jewish People stand in solidarity with Georgia! Georgian solidarity with the Israeli brothers – Let's wish the abducted to return home from the terror of Hamas!! Peace to the historical nation, the Jews, in their capital Jerusalem!!!
At the end of the show, the participants came out with posters calling for the return of Israeli citizens abducted by terrorists on October 7 last year.
The performance which was staged at the Akhmeteli Theater will be seen soon by the Israeli audience.
