Ireland will seek progress on so-called protracted conflicts involving Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova, which remain unresolved some two decades after they erupted in war - Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland Eamon Gilmore, Vice Prime Minister Eamon Gilmore has said. Mr Gilmore laid out his priorities for Ireland's year as chairman of the 56-nation OSCE at its headquarters in Vienna yesterday.
`The situation in Georgia is a matter of particular concern,` the Irish Deputy Prime Minister, adding that Ireland "strongly supports" the Geneva discussions - talks launched after the August war and co-chaired by EU, OSCE and UN.
Mr Gilmore said the problems of protracted conflicts are a well-known issue for Ireland and their experience could be used for conflict resolution in other countries.
