Today, at the Administration of the Government, State Minister of Georgian on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration David Bakradze held introductory meeting with Head of the European Union Delegation to Georgia, Ambassador János Herman, reports GHN based on the Ministry of European and Euro Atlantic Integration.
At the meeting, the sides discussed current issues of the EU-Georgia relations, as well as the implementation of the reforms envisaged by the EU-Georgia Association Agreement in which the importance of the EU and its Member States' support was highlighted. The parties also touched upon the preparation process for the upcoming Riga Eastern Partnership Summit in 2015.
In addition, attention was paid to the existing security situation in the region. In particular, it was noted that the signature of the so called "Treaty on Alliance and Strategic Partnership" between the Russian Federation and the de-facto government of Abkhazia, is a step towards the annexation of Georgia's territories. "Despite the fact that according to the international law this is an illegitimate document, it still raises concerns, poses threats and challenges to Georgia, as well as European and Euro-Atlantic security architecture. Therefore, the Government of Georgia intends to mobilise the international community in order to sustain pressure, as well as firm and strict consistent policies applied by the EU and Euro-Atlantic organisations until the goal is achieved" - stated David Bakradze after the end of the meeting. The State Minister particularly underlined the effort of the Government of Georgia to open the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective for the citizens of Georgia living in the occupied territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
