The police department of Imereti Region of the Georgian Interior Ministry have detained seven persons living in the town of Samtredia. They have been accused of making illegal bookmaking activities.
As reported, Zaza Mikeladze, Gela Shanidze, Soso Zakareishvili, Giorgi Nikoleishvili, Davit Kikvadze and Otar Saghareishvili, known to citizens as so-called `bookmakers`, were carrying out illegal bookmaking activities among the local population during different games of the World Cup 2010, and therefore a large part of the population was intensively involved in the illegal deals. In most cases, the locals incurred material losses, therefore different kinds of crime like robbery, street skirmishes, intentionally inflicting injuries on other persons ad also facts of suicide were significantly intensified in the region.
After searching the detainees` apartments, cars, large amount of cash - USD 7193 and GEL 9708 in total was seized. Lists of Investigation has already been launched.
