The European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) carried out a concluding visit to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Aleksandre Chikaidze and his Deputy, Mr. Levan Izoria, Minister of Corrections, Giorgi Mgebrishvili Deputy Minister of Health Zaza Sopromadze and the Public Defender of Georgia, Mr. Ucha Nanuashvili, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
CPT recommendations, following their last visit to Georgia in 2010, included improving TD isolators' infrastructure, ensuring protection of the rights of detainees and refining complaint handling mechanisms.
In the framework of the concluding meeting, members of the delegation presented general overview of the observations made during their 11-day official visit to Georgia and recommendations, with regards to improving human rights protection situation.
