First Deputy Defence Minister of Georgia Gocha Ratiani hosted UN Women Country Representative in Georgia Erika Kvapilova today. At the introductory meeting the sides talked about the bilateral cooperation between MoD and UN Women Organization. They expressed will to deepen relation in the future as well. Gender equality issues in security sphere and rising awareness in this direction were highlighted at the meeting as well, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Defense.
Within the bilateral cooperation, recommendations on gender audit, implementation of Annual National Plan, organizing activities and broad gender module in National Defence Academy are planned in the future.
In 2014 Ministry of Defence has already approved the Gender Equality Strategy. Advisors on gender issues, who were specially selected and trained, currently work in the civil office of the Mod and GAF. Two advisors-a man and a woman are serving in each military unit at the brigade level. They are responsible for supporting implementation of Gender Equality Strategy.
