On the 15th of December 2014 the Georgian Foreign Minister, Ms Tamar Beruchashvili met the President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Cardinal Kurt Koch.
The two discussed the existing bilateral relations between Georgia and the Holy See. Special mention was made of close co-operation in the cultural, humanitarian and educational areas and the need to further deepen this co-operation was emphasized, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Cardinal Kurt Koch was provided with detailed information regarding the increasing number of human rights violations in Georgia's occupied territories and the complicated situation there, as well as regarding the reforms that have been carried out by the Government of Georgia in the area of human rights protection.
Tamar Beruchashvili thanked the Cardinal for the Holy See's support and assistance to Georgia. The Representative of the Holy See reaffirmed his firm position concerning Georgia's territorial integrity and the non-recognition policy with respect to its occupied territories. He emphasized that the aspiration of Georgia - a country of ancient Christian values to the European Union represents its return to where it belongs.
