The Georgian Foreign Minister addressed the participants of the Conference. Ms Beruchashvili congratulated her colleague, Mr Davit Shavliashvili and the Ministry of Regional Development with the beginning of this rather important programme; she focused on the significance of regional development and noted that this is an important component of the Association Agreement signed between Georgia and the European Union.
"The issue of regions is one of the most important in the context of the Association Agreement, since nowhere in the world is this direction as developed as in the European Union. We should exert every effort in order to become closer to the standards of the Association Agreement step by step. This day once again demonstrates that implementation of the Association Agreement and its effective functioning are the main priorities both of Georgia's foreign and domestic policies", - the Minister stated. The aforesaid Programme is the first in the Eastern Partnership countries and is based upon the practice prevailing in the European Union, which, with a view to ensuring the implementation of the aforesaid programme, has allocated 30 mln euro.
