The Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr Davit Dondua, on the sidelines of his visit to the United Nations, has met the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Mr Jens Toyberg-Frandzen.
The two discussed the current situation in Georgia's occupied territories; the Geneva International Discussions; and the signature of the so-called "treaty on alliance and strategic partnership" between Moscow and the Sokhumi occupation regime, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It was also underlined, that the so-called "treaty" represents a further step taken by Russia towards the annexation of Georgia's occupied region Abkhazia, which threats stability and security situation both in Georgia and in the region as a whole. Mr Dondua and Mr Jens Toyberg-Frandzen focused on the necessity of effective response measures to be carried by the international community, particularly, by the UN against the Russian Federation's illegal actions, which violate Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity and infringe the principles and norms of the international law; and underlined the need to use relevant instruments. The bilateral meetings are planned to be held with the current and future member states of the UN Security Council.
