Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Giga Bokeria spoke about the significance of the visit of US State Secretary Hillary Clinton to Georgia at the briefing today, saying this visit was the beginning of much closer ties with the US administration.
Bokeria said it was particularly important that US did not plan to regulate relations with Russia on the expense of Georgia, which was demonstrated during the yesterday`s visit.
`Some doubted that US would restart relations with Russia on the expense of Georgia and these doubts turned out groundless. Two countries need dialogue and the interests of our country are not sacrificed in this process, just on the contrary, these relations are used to pressure Russia fulfil its obligations. That`s why we have been supporting the reset of politics with Russia carried out by the US administration,` Bokeria said and added that the use of the term `occupation` by US senior authorities should be appreciated as progress.
`It should be noted that the previous administration of the United States did not use this word, they only assessed the Russian aggression as exceeded use of force and as intervention. But the new administration has finally formed the position to the Russian aggression and made precise assessment of reality,` Bokeria said.
Deputy Minister has also responded to the comments by Russian PM Vladimir Putin yesterday, who said that term and act of occupation for one side might mean liberation for another party.
`Putin`s statement is an ordinary act of cynicism and it does not require more comments. Russia tries to avoid responsibility for what they did,` Bokeria said.
