The speaker of the Parliament Davit Usupashvili while delivering speech in Georgetown University also talked on the conflicts on the territory of Georgia, about reasons that provoked it and about the situation and threat that comes from Russia, reports GHN.
"We don't want to involve in the war with Russian NATO member countries and in common we are not interested in demolishing war on the territory of our country, where NATO and Russia will be against each other. No we just learn from lessons of the history and can't remember the war between NATO and Russia or between NATO and Soviet Union. That's why NATO is preventive mechanism and those countries which are members of NATO defend their interests and Russia or Soviet Union couldn't attack them. That's why when we want membership of NATO it means end of the war not beginning in our country," stated Davit Usupashvili.
The speaker of the Parliament also paid attention on the processes in the country, on the activity of the Parliament, o economic situation and on challenges in this direction.
After delivering the speech in Georgetown University Davit Usupashvili made comment about the actions of Russia against Georgia and Ukraine.
"Our position was and will remain that the events of Ukraine is continuation of the events of 2008 August in Georgia and accordingly this is different component of one plan. We also say to our friends that in the background of horrible events in Ukraine Russian aggression towards Georgia continues. This is how we can characterize so called agreements singed between Sukhumi and Tskhinvali with Russia and that this is one process, that we have to tackle in common. That's why the position of Georgia is stable and not changeable in the part of the aid of Ukraine and in understanding of the complex problem adequately," stated the chairman of the Parliament.
