Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili informed about his decision to leave the office during a briefing.
"Today I resign, but I continue to remain a faithful soldier of my country", Garibashvili said,
"Armenpress" reports that in conformity with the Georgian Constitution, in case a resignation of the prime minister, the responsibilities of the government is suspended, and the members of the executive perform their duties temporarily.
Within 7 days the President of Georgia must submit the new candidate for prime minister, introduced by the parliamentary majority, to the parliament for confirmation.
For his part, the candidate for prime minister must introduce the members of the government to the parliament in order to gain confidence for the government. The parliament must observe the issue of expressing confidence over the government within 7 days and adopt it by written majority authorization.
After this procedure the President must confirm the new government with a new Prime Minister within two days.
According to Georgian media reports, Garibashvili resigns so as to lead pre-electoral staff of the "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" party and the electoral list of the "Georgian Dream" coalition.
