"The amendments to the law on the Constitutional Court was translated and together with an explanatory letter has been sent yesterday to the Venice Commission, "- Eka Beselia declared.
As she said the Foreign Ministry mediated this affair. Eka Beselia herself also sent the amendments to the Venice Commission in electronic version via internet. Georgian President has a 10 day time limit to approve or veto this bill.
According to the amendments the new plenary session will be held no later than in a month after the oath will be taken by all member s of the Constitutional Court, or after the pre-term resigning of the Constitutional Court's Chairperson. The plenary session will elect new Chairperson of the Constitutional Court for 5 years period. The same rule affects elections of two deputies. The Constitutional Court will have an authority to suggest a Chairperson. President will not interfere anymore in choosing the candidacy of the Chairperson. The judges of the Constitutional Court will suggest a candidacy for the Constitutional Court ‘s Chairperson and for the Chairman of the Parliament. At the same time no person could be chosen as a chairperson of the Constitutional Court for the second term. One more question affects those judges who's 10 years power expires. The novelty in the amendments is also that the quorum for taking a decision increases up to the 2/3.
