The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs disseminated a statement on UN General Assembly's 70-th session resolution.
The statement particularly reads that the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on Status of IDPs from Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region, the resolution reasserts the IDPs' fundamental rights, first of all, the right of return to their homes voluntarily, in safety and with dignity.
According to the information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the resolution is purely humanitarian in nature and is based on the UN Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement. It condemns the violent demographic changes in the occupied regions, empowers the IDPs' right to return to their homes in safety and dignity regardless of their ethnicity, and stresses the need for respect for and protection of their property rights.
At the same time the resolution underlines strong necessity of implementation of the humanitarian activity without any hindrance in Abkahzia and S.O. regions. The resolution also calls participants of the Geneva talks to make active efforts in connection with facts of human rights violations in occupied regions.
