Being with his official visit in Washington at the Atlantic Council, Mikheil Janelidze, Georgian Foreign Minister took a floor at the conference: The Future of NATO Enlargement and New Frontiers in European security. He underlined that Georgia's aspiration to NATO unalterable is, as the organization supports our most valuable principles.
Janelidze stressed that NATO is a guaranty of the security in the world. And Georgia is a country that behind the iron curtain was after the restoration of statehood independence and before it. Georgia always was fighting for the freedom in the world and democratic values. "The membership to NATO, Georgian peoples' choice is, - he tells, - The joining to EU and Euro Atlantic bodies we consider as a process of our return to the European family, as we are a part of the Europe in the historical context."
"On its way to the NATO membership, Georgia considerable progress has, by using such integration mechanisms as are annual national program; NATO-Georgia Commission (NGC) and implementation of the actual package. Georgia became a regional model in view of the institutional reforms, " - Foreign Minister tells.
As he noted, the membership of Georgia to NATO will became an important signal for everyone, that the democratic transformation of the country is not only admitted, but accomplished with a fine result. The NATO Summit in Bucharest gave an important political decision on Georgia's membership to NATO.
Nevertheless, the country is expecting clearer signal at the NATO Summit in Warsaw, in view of the irreversibility of the process for joining the organization.
