On a trip to Kutaisi, Ambassador Kelly and his wife Francesca visited Gelati Monastery.
The U.S. government has contributed over $700,000 in funding towards restoration of this impressive monument, with grants going to restore and preserve the beautiful frescoes and mosaics that are such important parts of Georgia's rich cultural heritage.
The green tile roof - seen in this photo - is part of the restoration project, and handmade using traditional techniques.
