The June 13 flood victims memorial was opened at the crossroads of Vake-Saburtalo road. The flood happens year ago on a heavy rainy night of 2015. The disaster destroyed almost half of the infrastructure in central regions of the city.
The flood in Tbilisi caused death of 21 people and tens of families left homeless. The natural disaster hit Vere Ravine and destroyed the Tbilisi Zoo that was almost totally devastated.
Many animals (71 tigers) were killed and others escaped their pens and cages to the streets of Tbilisi and a police unit was employed to round them up. At morning citizens were warned to refrain from leaving homes as several lions and tigers were freely walking in central city area.
Today the President and the First Lady have laid flowers on the Memorial.
"Today, we look back at the last year's tragedy, and its heroes. This place will constantly remind us of the difficult moments that we all endured last year which united many people. Thanks to all who fought last year with the disaster, "- said the President.
