Otar Kakhidze, representative of the UNM responded to the statement of Kakhi Kaladze, Energy Minister concerning Vano Merabishvili's question on his imprisonment status as a political prisoner as it is shown in the ECtHR recent verdict on case Vano Merabishvili v. Georgia.
‘We are aware about the Kaladze's area of competence in energy sphere, when he was intending to purchase the Russian gas; as a consequence our country was to be dependable on Russian Federation. ‘
"For public also well known is that he is able to train sportsmen. But now we see that he also knows the European Convention on Human Rights and is aware of the legislative details. I cannot make any serious comment on this matter.
Nevertheless I advise Kaladze to read the points 106 and 107 of the Court's decision, where clearly shown that the detention of Ivane Merabishvili, all period of his imprisonment was serving not for the legislative purposes, but was politically motivated, particularly for obtaining information from him. Such actions were made by Procurator General, Prime Minister and Penitential Minister The government instead of making such comments, should take into consideration this decision of the Court, that affects badly the reputation of our country at the international level," - Kakhidze tells.
