Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili responds to the Defense Minister's remark in connection with NATO requirements. He underlined that an incorrect interpretation is on part of Tina Khidasheli to connect a question of abolition of the compulsory military service with NATO requirements. He tells this to journalists in response to the questions concerning Defense Minister's decision on compulsory military service.
"For the further implementation plans, the compulsory service must be abolished. The decision for abolition of the service was taken yet at the time when Saakashvili was a President. This quite multidimensional question must be taken after good technical preparation. Many governmental bodies must be included in preparation of this question. For instance - Regional and Infrastructure Development Ministry. Also profound interagency technical preparatory work must be undertaken As well this question has a direct connection with finances. Such questions usually are not to be aired beforehand. No doubt, we are moving generally to this direction for abolition of the service. But such important decisions are not to be taken at the Press conference. For the clarification of this misunderstanding we would better work on this question before airing anything. "
