Sergi Kapanadze, representative of the United National Movement (UNM), hopes that the Constitutional Court will deliver today a correct decision on ex-City Mayor Gigi Ugulava's case.
"Today the Constitutional Court session is dedicated to Gigi Ugulava's case. This a second high-public interest case is alongside with Cables case and is to be discussed simultaneously. The case is reviewed under the Article 182 (misspending of money) of the Georgian Criminal Code (GCC). This a very important court review is, as the Article on misspending of money became a political leverage for Bidzina Ivanishvili in fight against opponents. We hope that the Constitutional Court will consider this and deliver a fair decision.
I would like to note that the Constitutional Court already made correct decisions on Gigi Ugulava's case twice. First time when he was dismissed unlawfully and second time when his pre-trial detention was prolonged in breach of the Constitution, " - opposition politician declared.
For your notice, Gigi Ugulava was suspended, on 22 December 2013, from his functions by a court for alleged misuse of funds. He was arrested in July 2014 on charges of money laundering in the funding of his party's campaign.
