The "Ross Selkhoz Nadzor" (service de sécurité sanitaire russe), banned the import of 18.5 tones of Georgian peaches to the territory of Russian Federation. The customs officers in Kransnodar detained the cargo.
The Russian sanitation body explains this with the reason of insecurity of the fruits in terms of containing eastern contamination insects. To avoid the spreading of such insects at Russian territory they returned peaches to Georgia.
At the same time the LEPL National Food Agency in Tbilisi declares that the cargo sent to Russia was already certified. More laboratory probes will be done on peaches, and the case will not affect in no way the Russian - Georgian relations.
