Davit Usupashvili, Chair of the Georgian Parliament initiates new amendments to the Georgian Constitution's preamble.
He declared at today's briefing that the initiative touches a question of the Euro Atlantic integration and is about the statement concerning the Georgia's block-less status.
At 15:00 the Parliamentary bureau sitting will be held on Monday. Among many other questions will be discussed a problem of a Georgia's status without the block, on demand of group of citizens, who are ready to gather signatures for making changes in Georgian Constitution. In other words they wish to prohibit constitutionally the integration of Georgia in European and Euro-Atlantic bodies. "The citizens who demand this, are Nino Burjanadze and others, " - Usupashvili tells.
Chair of the Parliament stressed that the decisions will be taken according to the norms of the Constitution and the statement will be discussed in accordance with the existing legislation.
He tells that he is not about to hinder someone in this respect, but such things are not be used for political speculation in preelections period. As far as, the theme touches a question of the fundamental interests of a state. At the same time Usupashvili tells he is not going to be a passive observer of the happening and is addressing to his colleagues to initiate amendments in the Constitution in turn, that are necessary for Georgia's future and security. "In the preamble of the Constitution, where it is said for what Georgian people need the state, to be written an addition - for establishing of the full-fledged position in a system of democratic countries, in Euro-Atlantic system of cooperation and security. "This would be an adequate response to those group of people initiating the block-less status of Georgia."
