Ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili took a floor in Malta at the European Peoples Party (EPP) congress. He thanked the EPP for support of Georgia in visa liberalization process.
He underlined that the preparation for this process started yet at times of previous government. "The negotiations for this process were started before, when my Cabinet was at power yet. We prepared our country for this; we constructed the infrastructure, airports. However we hardly believed that this could ever happen, " - Saakashvili tells.
"For me a big honor is that I have to fight in two directions. In Georgia I am a honorable chair of the UNM and in Ukraine I am a leader of speedily growing new political party. Nevertheless, today here I am representing Georgia, and I would like to talk about Georgia. In 2012 we had had one more honorable change. After many years of success of our ruling party we succeed in passing of the power in a peaceful democratic way, this happens for the first time in the history of Georgian statehood. But the problem is that we passed the power to people who were not ready to keep it, "- Saakashvili noted.
He stated also that in 2008 Russia failed to occupy Georgia, however after 4 years the Russian oligarch and Russia undertook well known steps - provoking, inducement and all those steps that Russia usually makes worldwide. "They killed the most successful experiment of reforms in Georgia."
