Chargé d'Affaires Kent Logsdon and Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs Alexandre Kvitashvili will formally open the Bazaleti IDP Outpatient Clinic on July 19, 2010 at 11:30 AM. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, Mr. Logsdon will distribute medical supplies and school supplies that were donated as part of the U.S. Department of States' humanitarian program. GHN was informed about this in Georgia by the Embassy of USA.
The U.S. Department of State, under its Small Reconstruction Projects initiatives, provided UMCOR with $12,000 in funds for the reconstruction of the outpatient clinic. The clinic will be staffed by doctors, nurses, and lab assistants who are themselves IDPs as well as other staff from the surrounding region.
Prior to the establishment of the Outpatient Clinic, the Bazaleti IDP community of 1,200 people, including 140 children, had little access to healthcare services. Cooperation in this endeavor is only a small part of the U.S. Government's continuing efforts to provide internally displaced people and other vulnerable people with long-term assistance.
