Georgia`s success is our success, - president of Azerbaijan Ilhalm Aliyev said at the joint press conference with hid Georgian counterpart in the seaside town in Batumi in Adjara Region. Prior to it, the two leaders held talks on cooperation in economy and energy and successful projects. They said a permanent group working on the transit corridor, which will be controlling transportation from Asia to Europe through Georgia and Azerbaijan. Hastening the process of construction of Karsi-Tbilisi-Akhalkalaki railway was also discussed at the meeting.
Mikheil Saakashvili thanked Ilhalm Aliyev for friendship and support. He said, friendship with Azerbaijan has been tried by very important issues and by time.
`Georgian will never forget that when the gas and electricity supplies were cut to us, half of the Azeri population in the coldest days of winter were left without energy supplies in order to avoid Georgia from freezing and let our country continue its existence. It happened in 2005 and I am sure, it will always remain in memory of the Georgian nation. We will also never forget in every critical moment, Azerbaijan stood by Georgia without any hesitation in the most strategic, important, crucial issues`, Georgian president said.
`I was speaking several years ago that we should establish confederal relationships. Actually, there are such kind of relationships between the two countries, which surpass usual relationships. We continue each other, we are parts of one organism, therefore, the issues that are vulnerable to Azerbaijan , are vulnerable to us as well`, Saakashvili added. He also said Azerbaijan always properly responded to all the most vulnerable issues for Georgia.
Saakashvili said, at the meeting, the leaders also talked about the joint projects including the construction of the Tbilisi-Karsi-Akhalkalaki railway. He also said, the motor highway between Baku and Batumi will be set into operation in 2012.
President of Azerbaijan Ilhalm Aliyev spoke about the significance of joint projects carried out by the two countries and stressed implementation of Azeri investments in Georgia.
`I am grateful for inviting me to Georgia. I see the processes of development that are going on here. This is very important because your success means our success. I am glad that among investors working in Georgia are Azeri nationals as well. The main direction is energy but I am sure the Azeri companies will get interested in other spheres as well. Our countries are cooperating in different directions. Georgian and Azerbaijan are working together on projects of global significance. It is important that all the issues have been resolved and Baku and Tbilisi should continue cooperation as there is the best coordination between us`, Ilhalm Aliyev said.
