The leader of the public movement Solidarity to Illegal Prisoners, Eka Beselia says the new draft constitution is a document, which includes new challenges and serious threats. The document was drafted by the state constitutional commission, which sent to president and today, it was submitted to parliament for consideration.
Eka Beselia held a briefing today and said that the new constitutional model of governance failed to provide protection of civilians, failed to solve the problems, which were caused in the country due to the mixture of powers.
Beselia says the constitution will not provide balance between the government branches and it only serves to strengthen the prime minister`s authority; the new constitution shrinks the parliament`s rights and the mutual control between the government bodies becomes more impossible.
Eka Beselia declares mistrust to the current parliament and asserts the new constitution should be adopted by the parliament with supreme legitimacy.
