Working of political groups on reforming the Election Code within the National Democratic Institute (NDI) will be resumed. Chair of Georgian Parliament Davit Bakradze discussed the mentioned issue with NDI`s Resident Director for Georgia Luis Navarro in parliament on Wednesday.
The sides said after the consultation, that the first results of the joint work with the opposition within the NDI was seen at the local self-government elections held on May 30 and as promised, the work will continue for purpose of improving the election climate in the country.
Working on the process of preparing changes to the Electoral Legislation within the NDI will start in Autumn 2010 and it will last during 2011. Davit Bakradze said, their purpose is to draw up proper electoral legislation for the 2012 parliamentary elections.
`The first concrete positive results of this group`s work was that the local elections held in Georgia, were generally assessed as considerably better-organized than the previous elections. The National Democratic Institute agrees to continue hosting the group and performing a role of mediator in relations of different political parties. On behalf of the government and the majority, I can say that we are ready to continue the electoral reform. We hope the opposition parties will agree to this proposition and we will continue improving the Election Code together`, Davit Bakradze said.
