International Court of Justice ruled to recognize the independence of Kosovo from Serbia, proclaimed unilaterally in 2008, according to GHN with reference to the BBC.
So far 69 countries have recognized the independence of Kosovo. Against recognition of Kosovo expressed Serbia and Russia.
As UKRINFORM reported, large impact judges' decision will not have, because Serbia in the submission did not raise the issue of violation of international law. Belgrade has asked the UN court to give its legal assessment. In fact, it comes to advice. This softer formulation is made due to the fact that Serbia wants to become a member of the European Union, and therefore - must not quarrel with Brussels. The EU actively supports Kosovo.
