Police officers have detained former prosecutor, now lawyer for money extortion from prisoners` parents in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region. Along with Gogi Sakvarelidze, former prefect Valeri Gabelia has also been arrested.
As reported, Sakvarelidze and Gabelaia were permanently connecting with prisoners, suggesting them so-called procedural deal and extorting money from their families. In one of the cases, they were able to extort GEL 15 thousand from prisoner`s parents.
The suspects were caught red-handed. Law enforcers are working on ascertaining other victims of the crime. In case if considered guilty, the suspects may face about 9 years of imprisonment.
