Nine years have passed since the murder of Rustavi2 journalist, Giorgi Sanaia. The anchor of the most popular political talk show the Night Courier was found killed with a pistol gun in his apartment on July 26, 2001.
Four months after the murder the police arrested former officer of the Interior Ministry Grigol Khurtsilava nicknamed Gretsko, who pleaded guilty. The investigation lasted two years and in 2003, the court sent Khurtsilava to jail for 13 years. The motive of the murder was personal conflict.
However, the relatives and the society accused the investigation of bias and asserted the motive of the murder of the prominent journalist was political.
