MOLDPRES. Georgia is the second state after Romania which comes with concrete projects to help the residents who suffered in the wake of this summer floods. The Georgian state will finance the construction of living houses for citizens of the Nemteni village, Hincesti district, central Moldova, as well as of a kindergarten with about 70 places. The latter is to be constructed in a flood-hit settlement, under a decision by the Moldovan authorities, the presidential press service has said.
Acting President Mihai Ghimpu made the above statement at a today's news conference, held along with a representative of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, Suhan Sibashvili. The latter came to Moldova, leading a group of specialists from Tbilisi, so as to coordinate details of a project on constructing dwellings.
The head of state said that, besides the houses which are to be built, Georgia has already given ten boats and ten pumps to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service. Georgia will also organize leisure at the Anaklia Centre for 125 children from flood-hit settlements on 6-16 August, by assuming all the spending. Mihai Ghimpu stressed that the construction of dwellings will start after the selection of one of the three variants proposed by the Georgian side. The Construction and Rural Development Ministry will establish by tender the national company that will fulfill the order.
"Friends in need are friends indeed. I want to offer the sincerest thanks for the support given by Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, as well as to the entire Georgian nation. Moldova's people, especially the flood victims who will benefit from assistance, will always have respect towards our Georgian friends for the help provided in these difficult moments for the country," Mihai Ghimpu stressed.
At the news conference, Georgian Deputy Youth Minister, representative of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, Suhan Sibashvili, said that the Georgian side is interested in the construction of living houses as quickly as possible. He emphasized that Georgia has the goal that the flood-hit families have their own dwellings till the weather's cooling. The Georgian official said that Moldovan specialists were proposed three variants of houses, with the final decision regarding the project's selection belonging to the Moldovan side. "After the project is selected and the necessary funds are established to construct the concerned dwellings, Georgia will transfer the concerned sum to the executor," Sibashvili said.
Mikhail Saakashvili informed President Mihai Ghimpu that Georgia involved in a programme on assisting Moldova to alleviate the consequences of the nature calamities on 20 July, within a phone conversation organized following an initiative by the Georgian head of state.
