Chair of Georgian Parliament Davit Bakradze and ex-president of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus visited Saturday the site, where a new boulevard will be constructed in Black Sea resort of Anaklia close to the administrative boundary of occupied Abkhazia. Construction of the boulevard is underway, thousands of palm trees transported from Asia are planted there. The boulevard will be named after Valdas Adamkus.
The ex-president of Lithuania met locals and tourists in Anaklia and promised them to always stand by Georgia and the people. Davit Bakradze in his speech stressed the merits of Valdas Adamkus and recalled that he one of those presidents, who arrived in Tbilisi during the Russian aggression and expressed their support to the Georgian people. Valdas Adamkus also met with representatives of teh Georgian government in Anaklia.
`During the Russian aggression in 2008, leaders of our friendly countries arrived in Georgia and stood with teh Georgian people in Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi. President Adamkus is the person, whose share in the support was enormous. It was putting own life under jeopardy for protecting Georgia. It was the step we should never forget. This place where we are standing now, will be one of the most beautiful destinations in Georgia in several years. And it is symbolical that this destination will be named after the man, who has done his best to assist making Georgia`s future quiet and European`, Davit Bakradze said.
`I am extremely honoured to be here with you today and this is a very meaningful, very historic moment. I believe that the direction of life, which you have selected in this country is free, determent, vital and best representing symbolically the project you are conducting right here. I think this road, this direction is going us all to friendship. This is a symbol of you as a free country in the world`s free society. What is going on in Georgia now demonstrates that you want to work and construct not only for yourselves but future generations. This region has decided to develop. To the end of my life I`ll remain your friend and I believe your whole nation will be working together to achieve the one purpose that is freedom`, Valdas Adamkus said.
