The fluctuation of prices on consumer goods has been regulated - after the sudden growth of prices on wheat the economic situation is under the control of the government.
These statements were made at the meeting of the president with the Prime Minister Nika Gilauri and the Minister of Agriculture, Bakur Kvezereli. The president held a video conference with the regional governors and the ambassadors of Georgia to the United States and Ukraine, the main wheat importer countries.
President said that theoretically Georgia could produce the wheat of the amount, which could substitute half of the required wheat in Georgia, if the government carried out adequate measures of assistance to farmers.
`Actually Georgia can produce the required amount of wheat, just like it happened in the energy sector, when we succeeded to produce required electricity from own resources, we can do the same on wheat,` Saakashvili said.
Minister of Agriculture said Georgia was expecting import of wheat for seed from America on September 9. To avoid feasible problems tied with the export of wheat the president assigned the ambassador of Georgia to the United States, Batu Kutelia to carry out necessary activities.
Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine, Grigol Katamadze has been also given instructions. He said the government of Ukraine was prepared to sell 150,000 tones of wheat to Georgia if requested.
The price of wheat on wheat has been grown with 50% in Ukraine and it costs 250-300 dollar per tone, but the actual price of wheat for Georgia will be set after the negotiations of Georgian and Ukrainian authorities.
