Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov asserts that Russia can deter any attempt of aggression from Georgia towards Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the shortest period of time.
During his visit to Washington, Serdiukov briefed for media and said the military bases, which Russia had stationed in Georgia`s occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region, would provide effective defence against Georgia in five days.
`We analyse situation in the region permanently. The two bases we have there are enough to deter any possible aggressor, and we are not going to beef them up,` Serdyukov said, adding that in the event of crisis Russia would respond even quicker than it did in 2008.
