KYIV, September 24. /UKRINFORM/. Ukraine is now doing everything to implement the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages and create conditions for the coexistence of all peoples, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said in New York, while asking questions from members of the Atlantic Council of the United States, the presidential press service has reported.
"Ukraine is an internationalist state, and now the point is that equal conditions should be created for the stay in this country of all people who live here and have Ukrainian citizenship. The diversity of cultures makes Ukraine even more interesting, and the oppression of any culture in modern society is impossible. We recognize this and will take this into account in our state policy. The implementation of the European language charter in Ukraine is an issue put on the agenda. We are currently dealing with this," Yanukovych said.
He said that in many cases, the coexistence of different people on the same area was not a problem and that "only from elections to elections politicians raise these issues and stir up this policy."
