From today, October 1 in Georgia the institution of Jury will start operation. For each separate case set of jurors will be selected randomly among the persons aged 18 to 70. Here will be 12 main and 2 additional jurors. According to the law jurors will take part in trials with cases reviewing Article 109 of Criminal Code (premeditated murder with aggravation). In the court hearings with jurors, Judge have a role of leading of the court trial, he does not interferes with the work of jurors. Nevertheless if the party, Procurator's Office or defense is against juror's review of the case, the case will be decided by Judge without juror. As well, if they are against juror's imposing penalty, the penalty will be imposed by the Judge.

According to the law the juror cannot be a person of government-political rank, investigator, policeman, member of armed forces, clergyman, participant of the given court trial, accused person, drug addict who was penalized / fined for drug use in administrative procedure, psychologist, psychiatrist, lawyer.

Person has a right to refuse the obligation of juror, if he was already a juror for the last year, if he performs duties which are difficult to replace with other person, for the reasons of health conditions, if he is to depart abroad for a long period of time, above 70 years old, in other cases the fine amounted in 1000-1500 GEL will be imposed for not performing the duties of juror.
