Andres Fog Rasmussen, NATO Secretary General and Giorgi Baramidze, Integration Minister opened the NATO Liaison Office. According to Bakradze, the fact of opening such representative office is a proof of those special relations of Georgia with NATO which were established after the Bucharest summit.
"To be noted that Georgia progressed much in "doing its homework", particularly in carrying out successful reforms. Special attention deserves self governance elections held in May. We are proud with our reforms in police, defense, court, economy, energy carriers, education and reforms carried out against corruption. We are ready to continue cooperation with opposition in the future on all these issues, including the constitutional reforms, "- Baramidze said.
He as well noted that the Georgian government proved many times its faithfulness to the freedom and liberal democracy values. Georgia is determined strongly to continue democratic and liberal economic reforms for resolution of territorial occupation problems, unemployment and poverty, for the modernization of the country, for decentralization and fight against corruption for achievement of peace, security and prosperity.
"For us very useful will be the support from NATO Liaison Office and daily communication with them. The Office will play an important role in achieving of final aim for Georgia - the NATO membership. This is a strong basis for the performing of Bucharest summit decision. After this summit the question about the membership of Georgia to NATO does not exist anymore. Now we talk about how and when it will happen, "- Baramidze said.
He noted that Georgian party now is in expectation of Lisbon summit, were new strategic concept will be passed. It will even more strengthen the unity of the Alliance, its values, - freedom, democracy, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
