Rehabilitation of Dusheti's historical districts is starting. Today, the Prime Minister of Georgia discussed the upcoming project with the local population. Under the project, forty houses from the turn of the 20th century -24 of which are cultural heritage sites-will be rehabilitated. The project, worth over 5 million GEL, is financed by the Municipal Development Fund.
In addition, the rehabilitation of Dusheti's water supply system is underway. According to the Head of Government, the ongoing and upcoming projects will further boost Dusheti's attractiveness and appeal for the local population; equally importantly, they will give the city a significant tourist function.
"Today, we visited the city's center where very important work is in full swing to be completed in June of 2020, and I promise the population that it will be one of the most beautiful places in Georgia. This region has unique tourism potential, which makes the implementation of these projects doubly valuable, so that the local population, within the shortest possible period, may enjoy greater economic benefits. In the implementation of these projects, we are supported by the World Bank. As you know, developing the mountain areas is our Government's important priority. Much has been done in past few years, especially after the adoption of the relevant law. We have launched active work to install access to the internet, and our goal is for provide every settlement with internet connection. Without internet development, these most gorgeous sites will not be able fully to tap into their tourism potential. A very important road was built to the village of Arkhoti, previously separated from the outside world for years. Arkhoti is strategically important to our country, and it also has unique tourism potential," the Prime Minister stated.
