Kyrgyzstan is trying to form a democratic parliament after the state revolt and the change of leadership in the post-Soviet republic. Five political parties running in the elections have overcome the threshold; however, the one who leads in the polls is Ata Zhurt, the party led by the authorities of the former president, Kurmanbek Bakiyev.
The CEC has already counted 80% of ballots. The next parties after Ata-Zhurt are SDPK with 8.07 percent or 214,171 voters and Ar-Namys with 7.26 percent or 192,773 voters. 7.08 percent or 188,043 persons have voted for Respublika and 5.87 percent or 155,347 persons - for Ata Meken.
29 political parties took part in the parliamentary elections. The voter turnout was 56%.
Kurmanbek Bakiyev`s government was toppled down on April 7 2010. Since then the interim government led by Rosa Otunbaeva heads the government.
