President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili instructed the Minister of Agriculture and the governor of the Shida Kartli Region to improve water providing to the villages adjacent to the Tskhinvali conflict region today. Environmental Minister Goga Khachidze was also present at the meeting with the president.
President listened to the report of the ministers and the governor regarding the problems of the drinking water providing and distribution of firewood to the residents of the Shida Kartli Region. Governor Zurab Arsoshvili said the problems were really very serious, because there were villages to which the occupants cut the water supply and the locals failed to conduct agricultural works.
President asked the Agriculture Minister Bakur Kvezereli how he foresaw the solution of the problem. The minister said seven villages had the irrigation water crisis due to the cut of the water supply by the occupants, but the ministry had already drafted a project, according to which the water problem would be solved next year.
President instructed the ministers to pay particular attention to the residents of the village Nikozi and the surrounding villages, because the damage inflicted on these areas was greatest during the Russian occupation.
`We must help the people, who suffered most of all of the Russian occupation. I mean that we should help them pass this winter normally by supplying them with firewood this winter and next years too. Four must be also distributed in these villages. We must issue other assistance as well to let them feel socially protected,` president said and defined that the assistance implied help in health care and education spheres. He said it would be the response to the behaviour of Russian occupants.
President instructed the ministers to report in ten days the plan of assistance to these villages.
