The decree of the president of Georgia regarding the visa free regime for the residents of the North Caucasian republics of the Russian Federation will be brought to force on October 13, 2010.
President`s press speaker, Manana Manjgaladze held a briefing and explained the motives of the president`s decision today. She said the decree would refer to the residents of Chechnya, Dagestan, and Ingush republic, Kabardino-Balkaria, Adige, Karachay-Cherkessia and North Ossetia Republics of the Russian Federation.
`A few days ago Georgian president voiced a very significant initiative at the UN General Assembly session regarding the unified Caucasus. This decree is of coarse is tied with this initiative and it aims at enhancing relations among Caucasian peoples,` Manana Manjgaladze said. She explained that these people had to travel to Moscow and visit the Embassy of Switzerland to take Georgian visas so far, while they lived close to the Northern border of Georgia.
As for the security issues, Manana Manjgaladze said the security of the travellers should be controlled by other methods and means and not by issuing or not issuing visas to them.
