Georgian parliament has unanimously approved new constitution. The MPs were waiting for the conclusion of the session of Venice Commission in Strasbourg on the new supreme law of Georgia and only after the session, they started discussions and approval procedure of the constitution.
According to the conclusion of CoE`s advisory body for legal affairs, the new amendments made to the constitution are a step made forward for Georgia.
Chair of Parliament Davit Bakradze at the discussions thanked everyone who was working on the new supreme law of the country.
In a 112-5 vote, with one deputy abstaining, lawmakers approved a series of changes to the constitution that its supporters say will introduce more checks and balances in Georgia`s political system by curbing presidential powers and beefing up the role of the prime minister and the parliament.
