Georgian Foreign Ministry has made first official comment regarding the detention of two Georgian nationals in Malaysia a few days ago. The Ministry authorities have managed to contact the detainees and get information about the incident.
Giorgi Tabatadze, the head of the consular department of the ministry of foreign affairs of Georgia, has said the identity of the women will be held confidential until the investigation is over.
`The detainees say that they knew nothing about the drug and that they just carried a bag of a person, who asked them to take it to Malaysia. We expect that the investigation will find out that they were only transporters and it was not a deliberate transportation of drugs,` Giorgi Tabatadze said.
Two women from Georgia were arrested for Methamphetamine worth millions hidden inside picture frames. Both of them were arrested separately after their arrival in Malaysia on Monday.
One of the suspects has already admitted to the crime and named the person, she bought the large amount of Methamphetamine from.
The Malaysian legislation stipulates capital punishment for the crime. Local media say the detained Georgian citizens may be members of an international syndicate.
