UKRINFORM/. Defense Minister Mykhailo Yezhel within the frames of an official visit to Tbilisi has discussed with his Georgian counterpart Bacho Akhalaya a wide spectrum of the issues on development of bipartite cooperation in the defense sphere, the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry informs.
"We discussed those issues that are of mutual interest. These are the issues related to reformation of the armed forces of both countries and their optimization, the issue of participation in joint military exercises and many others," Yezhel noted.
During the talks, Defense Ministers of Ukraine and Georgia reached an agreement on continuation of training of servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the basis of a special training center of Georgian Armed Forces.
In turn, the Georgian party expressed an interest in studying long-standing experience of peacekeeping activities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
By results of negotiations, heads of international cooperation departments of defense ministries in both countries signed a cooperation plan between the ministries of Ukraine and Georgia for 2011.
On Thursday, Mykhailo Yezhel will view the Georgian military bases. In addition, the Ukrainian Defense Minister will meet with Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze and Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Security Council Levan Duchidze.
