Georgian national Darejan Kokhtashvili, who was arrested by Malaysian law enforcers with the charges of drug trafficking and illegal immigration to the country, attended first hearing at local court today. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Nino Kalandadze reported the details of the trial today. She said the process was postponed due to the lack of details in the case.
`We have hired a lawyer who is prepared to protect the interests of our citizen; he has also promised us to help in searching another accredited lawyer for the other citizen of Georgia who is held on another island, because we have no authority to send our attorney to Malaysia due to the local legislation,` Nino Kalandadze said.
Georgian side hopes that the detention of one of the detainees` husband and the testimony he gave to the police here in Georgia will help the defence to prove that the two women were unwillingly involved in the drug trafficking network.
