Eight public school principals resigned in Tbilisi on Wednesday. They did not voice reasons of their dismissal, although the decision likely refers to the protest rally held by schoolchildren on Tuesday (November 9). Part of students demanded abolition of exams for school leaving certificates for pupils of last grade.
Schoolchildren will have to demonstrate elementary basic knowledge at the exams. Representatives of teh Georgian Education Ministry say, they are not going to change the decision and all pupils of the 12th grade will have to pass the exams. The quizzes are going to be easy and the training material will be uploaded to website of the education ministry on in Spring 2011.
Georgian Education Minister explains it is necessary against the background when according to international surveys, level of general education in Georgia turns out to be lower than average.
As reported, in this school year, only the pupils are going to receive school leaving certificates, who pass eight obligatory exams. Each pupil will have to answer at least 15 of 40 questions in each subject.
