President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili visited Georgia's Samtskhe-Javakheti region today and opened a new 224-kilometer-long highway.
Saakashvili congratulated the residents of the region on restoration of road-transport network in the region.
‘Today is a happy and historic day for Georgia. Three important roads were built in the last centauries. The first was Georgian military way, aimed at taking freedom from Caucasus and Georgia, enslavement and colonization, the second road was Roki tunnel, its mission and function was to cut the centuries long ties between Georgia and other regions, and this is the third one, opposite to the Roki Tunnel, as it will unite Georgia and all Georgian regions, it is the road leading to final liberation of the country. I congratulate you on this historic day,' Mikheil Saakashvili stated.
The 224-kilometer-long road was built in the frames of the project of the Millennium Corporation and Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure.
The highway reaches state borders of Armenia and Turkey and existence of which has particular importance for the country's statehood.
